Windscale experienced their second defeat in a row last night when they were soundly beaten 5-0 by Durham Corinthians.
The visitors, playing only their third League game, claimed all the points from a Windscale team missing their usual three front runners.
Even so, this was a better performance from the Atoms than their 2-1 reversal against Annfield Plain but they were still second best to a team who had lost on their two previous visits to the Falcon Complex.
Corinthians opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Lewis Rees squared the ball to Cameron Arthurs who fired the ball home into the bottom corner.
Durham doubled the score 10 minutes later when Steven Telford whipped in a low ball only for the Atoms’ Dan Morgan to divert it into his own goal.
Despite a few surges forward which brought no reward, Windscale went further behind when Josh Harker fired in from the edge of the six yard box. Shortly after this, Liam Stamp gave the Atoms a little breathing space driving forward and firing in an effort that just cleared the crossbar.
Corinthians made the score 4-0 on the cusp of halftime when James Hughes driove the ball home from 25 yards.
The Atoms’ performance could only improve in the second period and it was a credit to them that they restricted Corinthians to only one further goal.
It was Kieron Richardson who notched the final goal in the 80th minute when he hit the back of the net with a volley from a Max Stoker corner to complete a deserved 5-0 victory.
The Atoms are on the road on Saturday to meet Darlington RA who themselves suffered a five-goal setback, an opportunity to turn the tide after two unwelcome results.
