Carlisle-born food writer and broadcaster Grace Dent will be signing copies of her book Hungry: A memoir of wanting more at The New Bookshop in Cockermouth this weekend.
She’s taking part in the town’sTaste Cumbria festival, including a sell-out Q&A event with BBC Radio Cumbria’s Mike Zeller.
Grace, who writes for the Guardian, is a regular critic on Masterchef UK, Masterchef: The Professionals and Celebrity Masterchef. She also hosts the Comfort Eating podcast and is the author of a host of books for teenagers.
Hungry charts Grace’s life growing up in Currock, Carlisle, to becoming one of the most colourful voices of the British food scene. The book blurb adds: “It’s also everyone’s story – from treats with your nan, to cheese and pineapple hedgehogs, to the exquisite joy of cheaply made apple crumble with custard. It’s the high point of a chip butty covered in vinegar and too much salt in the school canteen on an otherwise grey day of double maths and cross country running.
“Warm funny, and joyous, Hungry is also about love and loss, the central role that food plays in all our lives and how a Cadbury’s Fruit & Nut from a hospital vending machine can brighten even the toughest situation.”
Grace will be at The New Bookshop, Main Street, from 2pm to 2.30pm tomorrow, Saturday September 24.
