Windscale travelled to Darlington RA determined to halt their recent dip in Wearside League form.
It wasn’t a brilliant performance but the 2-2 draw was an improvement on the Atoms’ two previous results. They were worthy of the point due to their positive attitude particularly in the second half.
Things had looked ominous initially as they found themselves 1-0 down at half-time with a goal from Alex O’Hagan.
The deficit was doubled just prior to the hour mark when a Danny Frears diving header hit the back of the visitors’ net.
It was Lewis White, introduced shortly prior to Darlington’s second goal who turned the game round for the Atoms. His presence altered the dynamics of play with the visitors becoming more dominant.
With 15 minutes of the game remaining, a Laurie Black chip to the far post was picked up by Matt Metcalf who slammed the ball home.
The equaliser looked to be on the cards two minutes later when a goalmouth scramble appeared to have produced another chance for the visitors. However, the Darlington custodian was glad to pounce on the ball and clear the danger.
Parity was achieved with nine minutes of the match remaining and it was that man White, surging forward in a Windscale attack, who picked-up the ball and fired it home for a deserved equaliser.
They have another tough midweek away trip when they take on fifth placed Farringdon on Wednesday evening.
