A Lake District restaurant has been named the best fine dining restaurant in the world for the second consecutive year by Tripadvisor.

The platform announced the winners of its 2022 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Restaurants awards.

The title of world, Europe and UK #1 Fine Dining restaurant has been awarded to the Old Stamp House, in Ambleside, housed in the former office of renowned poet William Wordsworth. The restaurant boasts a Michelin Star.

And the good news doesn’t end there as the Old Stamp House’s sister restaurant, Kysty, also collected fifth spot in the UK in the Date Night category.

The Old Stamp House has in recent months been the subject of a major refurbishment, which has seen the creation of a stylish, intimate new dining space with stone flagged floors, exposed stonework, and other deft interior design touches.

Including specially commissioned works of art by local artists, including the likes of Jo McGrath, of Yew Tree Farm, Coniston, which seamlessly blend the old and the new to accommodate an additional 12 guests. A new service area has also been created for staff.

Owner Ryan Blackburn said: “It’s incredible that we’ve been recognised with the awards from Tripadvisor for Best in the World, Best in Europe and Best in the UK, based on community reviews, for the second year in a row, as well as being listed fifth in the UK for Kysty in the Date Night category, an improvement of two places on last year.

“Both teams constantly listen to what our guests have to say and the feedback they give us helps us deliver consistency and excellence across every aspect of what we do. Both restaurant teams are a little bit lost for words and just want to say thank you to the wonderful guests that have taken the time and trouble to help us continue to develop and improve as both evolve.’’
