Several vehicles had to be moved and warnings given to drivers in the Lake District due to poor parking.
Police said officers from South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team had been conducting checks in the Windermere area today, Sunday July 12.
Officers handed out traffic offence reports to drivers – a formal written notice issued by a police officer to record a suspected driving offence at the roadside.
A report can either result in an awareness course, fine, court appearance or no further action taken after it has been reviewed, depending on the severity of the suspected offence.
South Lakes Police said:
- East side of Coniston – several vehicles had to be moved and multiple traffic offence reports were issued to vehicles obstructing the highway.
- A5084 near to Sunny Beck and the lake shore – several vehicles had to be moved and multiple traffic offence reports were issued.
- A5084 at Brown Howe – several vehicles had to be moved and multiple traffic offence reports were issued.
- A591 at Low Wood – Car found parked completely blocking the pedestrian footpath forcing people to walk on the A591. A traffic offence report was issued.
Officers said Rayrigg Road in Bowness remained largely clear through the day.
South Lakes Police said: “At a time when the risk of wildfires is so high it is essential Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service can access rural and remote areas.
“Parking on rural roads seriously compromises this as well as the general safety of other road users and pedestrians.
“The countryside is the working environment of our farmers.
“Every farmer should be able to access land with heavy machinery and not find roads and gateways blocked.”
