A Cumbrian nature reserve is set to host an adult-only horror trail guaranteed to make you scream.
Watchtree Nature Reserve, just outside of Carlisle, is transforming its 5k walk and bike trail around the reserve into a fright walk, or run – and it’s not suitable for the faint of heart this Halloween.
Once night falls, visitors will become the victims in their very own horror film and can expect immersive sets and live action actors to scare them to their core.
The scares for now are all top secret, with details of the event only set to be given out to visitors before they embark on the night.
Giving us a teaser of what is to come at the event, events team leader Stephanie Norman said some familiar horror film faces may make an appearance, but that the scares would not be limited to horror film themes.
She said: “Be prepared to be absolutely horrified. It will be frightening, you will be scared and make sure you expect the unexpected.”

Stephanie added a ‘safe word’ will be in place for visitors to shout if they want to leave the trail early and the team are expecting tickets to sell out following the success of events from previous years.
The event will be run entirely by Watchtree volunteers and sets, costumes and make up have been donated by a number of anonymous sponsors.
Stephanie said: “As a registered charity, we are always looking for ways to increase awareness and raise money by doing fun things that help and this is one of them.
“We have definitely got some interesting imaginations here at Watchtree and while we do have a family friendly Halloween day going ahead, this event will push the boundaries and be much scarier, which is why it’s strictly for over-18s only.”
Visitors are encouraged to come in a group, or take on the 5k alone, if they dare, to see if they can survive the trail. The track is also fully wheelchair accessible and will take visitors through and around woodlands.
The event is set to go ahead on Saturday October 29 in all weather conditions and a torch is required for entry. All those who survive and make it to the end will receive a medal for braving the trail.
All those taking on the event should be in good health before purchasing a ticket.
The event has been sponsored by David Allen Financial Services and the money raised from ticket sales will go towards the nature reserve and their charity projects.
