Cumbria Cricket League is looking at restructuring the competition from 2024.
The management committee has sent out questionnaires for clubs to consider ahead of the League’s AGM on Saturday, Oct 29 in the Workington club.
The committee say that over the past few seasons, it has become increasingly apparent to them that there is an ever-increasing gap between the sides who currently contest the Premier Division and issues with short-sided and conceded games in the lower divisions.
They also feel that there are pressures placed on the leading club players from the County to play for them on Sundays at the expense of the League’s premier cup competition.
Among the questions being asked are: How many teams should contest the Premier Division – 8, 10 or 12.
They are also being asked when Cup cricket should be played – the current mix of Saturdays and Sundays; Saturdays only or Sundays only.
The playing of the T20 tournament is also the subject of a question.
Should it be played on a Saturday (using those freed up by reducing the size of the League) on Friday nights or in mid-week.
Clubs are being asked if they would like regionalised Leagues for second X1’s with a north/south split.
There’s a key question, too, on points distribution for matches which brings draws into the equation.
The management committee are looking for views on: win/lose as operates at the moment; a win, lose, draw system or a combination of the two (half season win lose cricket one day rules and half season Win/Lose/Draw) .
The season’s awards will be presented at a dinner in the Washington Hotel, Workington on the Saturday night when the guest speaker will be Paul Allott.
