The Great North Air Ambulance are asking gamers to ‘play’ their part in helping to save lives by hosting a gaming day this month.

GNAAS has joined forces with GivePenny to create a ‘World Gaming Day’ fundraiser where people hold a gaming day with their friends and family to raise funds for their charity.

Saturday October 22 is the official World Gaming Day, but gamers can host their event on any day throughout October.

GNAAS paramedic Jamie Walsh, who is a keen gamer, said: “In the last financial year we were called upon 1,732 times to help treat the most severely ill and injured people in the North of England. Every mission costs, on average, £4,478 and we receive no government funding, which means we rely on supporters to donate and fundraise.

“We’re really excited to launch our new gaming fundraiser as it’s a fun way to spend time with friends and family, as well as raising vital funds for our charity.”

Participants can play both digital games like Minecraft and Fifa or board games like Monopoly and Twister.

There’s no minimum fundraising target, but it is suggested that each host asks their participants to give £10 for joining, plus any other fundraising incentives or challenges that are set up on the day.
