Carlisle City have gone seven Northern League games without a win but it’s no secret as to why.
Manager Jim Nichols saw enough in Saturday’s 4-2 home defeat to Tow Low which emphasised the poor run of results.
“We scored goals for fun last season but that’s just not happening. We had plenty of possession and were camped around their box for long periods but never worked the goalkeeper enough.
“We had got back into the game by making it 2-2 early in the second-half but couldn’t score again when we were on top.
“That’s fatal because they caught us on the break for a third goal. The first two goals had been two bad errors from our point of view and that says it all as to why we are on a poor run of form.
“When you don’t put teams away when you’re on top then you won’t win games of football. I think we are a work in progress really and just have to pick ourselves up for the weekend at Newton Aycliffe.
“We hope to have Tyler Bowman back after he missed the weekend game and Tom Mahone from Workington will come into the squad.
“It won’t be easy but I hope we can get back into shape and start picking up again.”
Last season’s Division Two champions City started the current campaign really well and were lying second at one stage.
They are now down to 13th, but only five points behind Saturday’s opponents Newton Aycliffe who sit third.
Jordan Irving scored both of City’s goals on Saturday, the first from the penalty spot.
