A man who collected scrap metal without a licence has been fined £660.
Isaac Carrigan, of Newtown, Blackford, near Carlisle, was spotted by an Eden District Council enforcement officer collecting items from a property in the Pategill area of Penrith.
He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court and was found guilty of prosecuted for unlicensed scrap metal dealing. He was fined £660, with £566.40 costs and a £264 victim surcharge.
An Eden District Council spokesman said: “The council’s environmental enforcement team are very pleased with the result of this case.
“We are warning those who travel into Eden to collect scrap without a licence, in no uncertain terms: if we catch you, we will prosecute you.
“Householders should also be aware that they must only allow their waste to be taken away by individuals or companies who have the correct licenses and permits.”
