A Whitehaven petrol station has been named one of the best in the North of England.

The Spar, on Richmond Hill Road, won the accolade at the Forecourt Trader Awards.

Following the success of Spar in Maryport won last year’s top prize and this year, the £3 million Hensingham garage, took the top spot.

Both service stations are operated by James Hall & Co Ltd.

Spar Whitehaven won in the category of sales up to four million litres per annum.

Fiona Drummond, company stores director at James Hall & Co. Ltd, said: “To come away with a second consecutive win in the Forecourt Trader Awards is an amazing feeling, and it rewards all the hard work put into the launch of Spar Whitehaven from right across our company stores division.

“The store and forecourt truly are a community asset, and the range is exceptional. However, it is a credit to store manager Sharon Ramsden and her brilliant team on the ground for maintaining the excellent standards set that have helped us achieve this award.

James Hall & Co. Ltd is Spar UK’s primary wholesaler and distributor for the North of England. The company serves a network of 600 independent Spar retailers and company owned Spar stores six days a week from its base in Preston.
