Workington Reds will come up against an old rival in the Macclesfield dug-out this week.
Dave McNabb has been appointed the Silkmen’s new manager following the weekend sacking of Danny Whittaker.
McNabb guided Warrington Rylands to the NPL West title last season when they just pipped the Reds.
They beat Workington 2-1 in Warrington and drew 1-1 at Borough Park late in the season.
McNabb surprisingly left Rylands at the beginning of September and was today unveiled as the new man in charge at Moss Rose.
Tim Lees, who was part of his coaching staff at Rylands, has also been appointed as his assistant manager.
Last season’s NPL West win was the third of three promotions McNabb masterminded during his four years in Padgate. He was also responsible for steering Rylands to victory ion the 2021 FA Vase final at Wembley Stadium.
He takes over a Macclesfield side that leads the NPL West table by three points from Workington hjaving played a game less..
McNabb had taken Warrington Rylands from the North West Counties to the Northern Premier League and his decision to leave in September appeared to be a shock to most.
After leaving Tylan a month ago McNabb said: “I wouldn’t rule anything out if the right opportunity came along today, I’d jump straight back in. I am very conscious that until that opportunity does come, I want to make sure it’s the right opportunity for me and the club – whichever club comes calling.
“For now, it’s about taking a bit of time, watching some games, try and improve as a manager, a coach and wait for that opportunity to come along.”
That opportunity has arrived in the shape of Macclesfield.
