Staff from a South Cumbrian home care provider have been nominated for prestigious awards.
Rachel Sanders, Mannon Wheatman, Laura Holliday and Candy Bradley, who work for Home Instead South Lakes, have been shortlisted for the Great British Care Awards 2022.
Rachel and Mannon are shortlisted in the recruitment category, care professional Laura Holliday is being celebrated for being an excellent newcomer, while Candy Bradley’s exceptional palliative end of care has won her a nomination. One of its entire client teams is also a finalist in the Putting People First category.
Rachel and Mannon nomination comes following them adopting an innovative approach to recruitment, which sees them demonstrating the benefits of working in care and showing why it’s not just a rewarding job but a career path. Home Instead has initiatives including a wellness programme which includes free counselling and legal advice for care professionals and their families, anniversary and refer a friend bonuses of £250, national and local discounts, and pay up to £16.50 per hour in addition to travel, waiting and training time of £13.50.
Laura previously worked as a chef but craved a new challenge to help those in need in her local community. She only joined Home Instead South Lakes less than a year ago but has already made a huge impact on her clients’ lives, enabling them to stay at home yet receive the care crucial to their health and wellbeing.
Candy has excelled herself in supporting people in need of end of life care, helping clients stay calm and comfortable in their final days. This is alongside supporting clients’ families, providing emotional support at such a difficult time for them.
Louise Yates, general and registered manager of Home Instead South Lakes, said, “I am so proud of all our finalists for being nominated for such a prestigious award. Moments like this reiterate how dedicated our team is at Home Instead South Lakes, all of whom go to great lengths to support our clients in our community. They are a credit to themselves and Home Instead.”
The awards take place on Wednesday November 12 in Manchester.
National Care Awards nominations

Laura has also been nominated for the National Care Awards, alongside another colleague Shaun Moore.
Laura has been shortlisted in the best newcomer category, while Shaun is in the running for the care professional title.
Shaun joined Home Instead in September 2020. Having previously worked in retail, Shaun decided that he wanted a more rewarding career and the opportunity to give back to people in his community.
Louise Yates said: “This is testament to the caring nature of both Laura and Shaun, and their instinct to go above and beyond to care for our clients. Since joining Home Instead South Lakes nine months ago, Laura has excelled herself, helping to teach a client to swim and walk again.
“I’m delighted to see Shaun get recognised for the wonderful work he does. He is genuinely caring and compassionate and treats clients like his own family.
“Shaun also finds the time to run Ronnie Gardiner Methods groups with his partner in the local area. RGM is a multi-sensory exercise therapy for people with conditions of the brain as well as for healthy ageing.
“We are very lucky to have Shaun working for us, his daily actions display his selflessness to go the extra mile for clients to ensure they always have outstanding care”.
The National Care Awards take place on November 26 in London.
