People can remember loved ones at Christmas with hospice’s Light Up a Life campaign

Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, are inviting people to remember loved ones during the festive period and help support the charity.

For the first time since 2019, the hospice will hold Light Up a Life events to bring the community together.

On Sunday November 27, thousands of lights will illuminate the hospice grounds on Durdar Road, Carlisle, as the local community remember and celebrate the life of loved ones and friends who are no longer with us. Everybody is welcome to attend the service which will begin at 4.30pm and on Friday, December 9, Carlisle Cathedral will hold a service.

Palliative care social worker and family support team lead, Wendy Ashton, said: “The Light Up a Life appeal raises much-needed funds for the hospice, allowing us to continue caring for families when they need us most. It is also a special opportunity for us to take a chance to remember all of our loved ones.

“We know times are tough this year but anything you can give is much appreciated no matter how large or small.

“The money raised will help the dedicated staff and volunteers to continue giving expert care, love and support to local people at their time of need.”

Last year the appeal helped raise £25,500.

People can choose to remember any one close to their heart during Light Up a Life, not just people who have been cared for by the local charity. If you would like to celebrate the life of a loved one and donate to Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, call 01228 810801 or visit https://www.edenvalleyhospice.org/support-us/lual-22“
