Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves recorded a superb victory over higher league opposition.

They beat Premier Division Aspatria 5-3 in the Conway Cup quarter final on Saturday. Ben McCarron hit a double for Celtic and Jak Conway and James Bell also scored, while Celtic’s fifth was an own goal.

Andrew Trestianu, Richard Hudson and Malc Graham replied for Aspatria. All other games at the weekend were in the Cumberland FA County Cup.

Westmorland League sides Langwathby United and Greystoke faced off and it was Greystoke who booked their place in the quarter finals with a rousing 8-0 win.

Lewis Monkhouse scored a hat-trick, while Jack Peile scored twice and Leigh Lynch, Shane Sinkinson and Joshua Halliwell also added their names to the score-sheet.

UniSun came out on top in a feisty encounter with Wigton that required extra time to separate the teams.

UniSun raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Dave Barnes and Dillon Burns before Wigton hit two second half goals to level the scores.

The match looked to be heading for penalties but in the 120th minute Dave Nelson was brought down in the box and Shane Dorward slotted home the penalty to give UniSun the victory.

Witehaven Amateurs came through a tricky tie with Westmorland League Kirkoswald on Thursday with goals from Carl Denver, Kian Goulding, Ben Powell and Owen Woodburn giving them a 4-1 victory. Jake Holden got a consolation for Kirkoswald.

Cockermouth’s match with Keswick was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and will now be played on Saturday.
