Firefighters tackled a hotel blaze over the weekend in the Lake District, which saw one person suffer from smoke inhalation.

Crews were called out to Armathwaite Hall Hotel in Bassenthwaite, at around 3.50am on Saturday, November 19.

Six fire engines and several special appliances from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service attended the blaze at the property on the A591.

A statement from the hotel said: “We can confirm that there was fire at the hotel through the night.

“However, thanks to the speedy response and great work from the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was contained to a small area of the hotel and most importantly our guests and staff remained safe.

“Thankfully we remain open and look forward to a fabulous wedding today and a busy festive period. Thank you to everyone who has been in touch to check on us and for the kind words.”

A bin fire had spread to the building, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said and added: “One person was passed to the care of North West Ambulance Service with suspected smoke inhalation.

“We’re pleased that we were able to contain the fire quickly to prevent it spreading which means the hotel is still open for guests and visitors.”

It added it had been a busy weekend for its crews across the county.
