Free festive parking in South Lakeland in run-up to Christmas

Festive shoppers can take advantage of free Sunday parking in the run-up to Christmas in South Lakeland.

Westmorland Shopping Centre Car Park in Kendal and several pay-and-display car parks operated by South Lakeland District Council in the district, will offer free parking on selected dates.

The free Sunday parking offer will apply on:

  • Sunday November 27
  • Sunday 4 December 4
  • Sunday December 11
  • Sunday December 18

No contract permit-holder only car parks are included in the offer.

Councillor Robin Ashcroft, portfolio holder for economy, culture and leisure, said: “The diverse and unique shops in our towns and villages are key contributors to the vibrant communities of South Lakeland which have faced, and are facing, enormous challenges but responding with resilience and fortitude.

“We make this free offer every year in the run-up to Christmas and I would appeal to everybody looking to do some Christmas shopping to support their local shops and use our free parking offer, make a day of it and take the time to experience all the brilliant amenities and attractions South Lakeland’s towns and villages have to offer.”

The following car parks will be subject to the free Sunday parking offer:

Ambleside

  • King Street
  • Lake Road
  • Low Fold
  • Rydal Road

Bowness

  • Braithwaite Fold
  • Ferry Nab
  • Glebe Road
  • Quarry Mount
  • Rayrigg Road

Grange-over-Sands

  • Berners Close
  • Hampsfell Road
  • Kents Bank Road
  • Main Street
  • Windermere Road

Grasmere

  • Red Bank Road

Kendal

  • Blackhall Road
  • Booths supermarket
  • Dowkers Lane
  • Highgate (Bowman)
  • Parish Church
  • Library Road
  • Peppercorn Lane
  • Kendal Museum
  • Kendal College
  • Sandes Avenue
  • South Lakeland House
  • Westmorland Shopping Centre

Kirkby Lonsdale

  • Booths supermarket
  • Market Square
  • New Road (number 1 and number 2)

Milnthorpe

  • Beetham Road
  • Park Road

Sedbergh

  • Joss Lane
  • Loftus Hill

Ulverston

Parking may be limited on Sunday, November 27 due to the Dickensian Festival

  • Brewery Street
  • Buxton Place
  • Daltongate
  • Stockbridge Lane
  • Theatre Street
  • The Gill

Windermere

  • Broad Street
  • Rayrigg Meadow

Low Fellside in Kendal is a contract permit-only car park and people will not be able to park there without displaying a valid permit.

Brewery Arts Centre car park in Kendal and Miller Bridge car park in Ambleside will not be offering free Sunday parking.
