Work to transform Kendal Library will start in the new year.
Cumbria County Council said the redesigned library will improve people’s experience with clearer signs, an improved layout and dedicated seating areas. There will also be a range of activities available including Adult Learning classes, children’s activities and specialist drop-ins.
The county council has appointed Top Notch Contractors to carry out the work. Last year, people were asked about what they would like to see from the redesigned library. Those views have informed the redesign plans for the building, the authority said.
The library has already had work carried out on its glass ceiling and lighting last year. It is estimated that this new phase of work will be completed in the summer. Some areas of the library will be cordoned off while work takes place, and there may be some noise and disturbance.
Councillor Deborah Earl, cabinet member for public health and community services, said: “It’s great to see this exciting project to redesign Kendal Library come to fruition, with work starting soon. The changes will create an enhanced library building and a wonderful community setting for everyone to enjoy.”
