New year is often a time for resolutions and commitment to make changes and that can mean starting off the year with some exercise.
To be honest, it was quite possible to see why some people may have decided that January 1 2023 was a morning for contemplation rather than action!
A very soggy Frenchfield did, however, see 161 people get out and walk and run their way around the route with many enjoying fun splashing through the puddles and a squelch across the grass.
On a morning such as this more than ever we should thank the 22 hardy souls who volunteered and stood in the rain providing the usual mix of encouragement and motivation for all those taking part.
Daisy Barnes was the first woman home in a PB of 20.36 with Harry Lancaster first male home in an impressive 16.44, doubling up his first place from Saturday.
Today was a special run for Simon Knell who completed his 250th parkrun, with 238 of those at Penrith, and for Katy Drewette who has now completed 100 runs.

Christmas and New Year 2022 to 2023 have offered a different opportunity with runners being able to notch up a possible four parkruns over two weekends which has meant real commitment from our volunteer and organising teams not only at Penrith but all over the UK and indeed the world!
If you fancy a walk or a run or want this year to be about being more involved in volunteering – then do come along to Frenchfield, every Saturday at 9am – you are guaranteed a warm welcome and many thanks.
Congratulations to everyone who attended – if you can get through a parkrun in that weather then the rest of the year will be a doddle!
