A lone walker in his 70s was flown to hospital after suffering chest pains while out in the Lake District.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, in their fifth callout of the year, were alerted at around 3.40pm yesterday, January 7.
The man had called 999 while he was on Beckstones Gill, Barf.
The team said: “In light of the potentially serious nature of the man’s condition a Coastguard helicopter was also requested. The man was found on the path a few hundred metres from the base of Barf.”
The team carried him off the hill on a stretcher and while a land ambulance was waiting, the preferred option was to airlift the walker.
The Coastguard helicopter landed at Braithwaite Institute and collected the walker, taking him to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary.
The rescue involved 24 team members and took two hours and 23 minutes.
