With the clock ticking down to the relaunch of the Workington Comets the new team manager for the 2023 season has been announced.
It’s a familiar name, too, as James Denham – a member of the Denham family who have been involved in speedway for a number of years – has been handed the reins for the Development League campaign.
Comets promoter Andrew Bain said: “We have a cracking team signed up for 2023, but it is important that we also have a driven and dedicated team manager to guide the team and I think we have that with James.”
James has been around speedway since its first relaunch at Derwent Park in 1999, but has also been involved with the sport as a mechanic to former Comets riders Richard Lawson, Ashley Morris, Mason Campton, and Dan Bewley.
However, this will not be the first time James has been team manager for the Comets, as in 2012 he stood in as team manager for an away match at Ipswich.
On his appointment James said: “Our aim is to develop these riders to the next level, as these are the future of British Speedway.
“My role is to ensure we give our riders advice and support to ensure they reach their maximum potential, with ambitions to build this club back up to where it belongs with quality racing at our fantastic new venue.”
The Comets will be holding a press and practice at Northside towards the end of March with the Development League season starting in April.
