Emergency services were called to Whitehaven harbour in the early hours after reports that a person had fallen onto the coastal defences.
Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard Rescue teams, Cumbria police and the ambulance service attended the incident.
The person had fallen from height in the North Pier area, landing on the coastal defence rock armour below.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team, with their colleagues from Maryport, located, accessed and stabilised the casualty.
A Whitehaven spokesman said: “The casualty was quickly located by police and swiftly joined by Coastguard officers.
“Initial medical assessment and treatment was provided by our officers whilst an extraction plan was devised.
“With the ambulance service now on scene and able to offer strong pain relief, the casualty was extracted from the location, where we handed them over to the care of the ambulance service for treatment and onward transportation to hospital.”
