The owners of a West Cumbrian hotel and lounge bar have begun a process to dissolve the company.
Western Lake District Hotels Ltd was set up in 2016 to run the Hunday Manor Hotel at Winscales, near Workington and Frederick’s in Cockermouth.
Rumours began last weekend that both had closed unexpectedly. Dozens of people had weddings and events booked at the hotel but claimed they had not been contacted.
The Hunday Manor Hotel closed on January 9 for three days, but it is believed it then closed down for good on Saturday, with bosses telling staff it was not reopening. It is understood they were all told there were no longer jobs for them.
People booked in for Sunday lunch last weekend were told the hotel was shut until further notice, but the phone remains unanswered and a sign notifying people about the closure on January 10, 11 and 12 remains in the window.
Frederick’s on Station Street has also been closed. Websites for Western Lake District Hotels, Hunday Manor and Frederick’s all now say ‘account suspended’
Now, Western Lake District Hotels listing on Companies House says there is an active proposal to strike off the firm. The full notice is expected to be published later this month.
An active proposal to strike off can either be a voluntary or involuntary process. If voluntary, company directors petition the shareholders to close the limited company. If involuntary, the dissolution will go ahead as long as there are no objections made.
It is not clear whether Western Lake District Hotels’ active proposal to strike off is voluntary or involuntary.
Directors of the firm are listed as John Miller and Pascal Delorme on Companies House.
Hunday Manor and Frederick’s were at one time owned by the Wilson family, based in Cockermouth. Joseph Wilson was appointed as a director of Western Lake District Hotels in April 2017, but resigned in May last year.
