A Carlisle woman has appeared in court accused of stealing more than £75,000 from an elderly couple — and then allegedly intimidating them after police were told.

Rebecca Fidler, 33, faces three charges.

One alleges the theft of £75,287 from the pair between 2019 and April 15 2021. Two other charges allege the intimidation of witnesses — the same man and woman on April 16 2021.

Court papers show Fidler is alleged to have done so by entering their property as a trespasser and demanding to know what they had said to police.

Fidler, of Holywell Crescent, Carlisle, appeared in front of a district judge at the city’s magistrates’ court this afternoon.

In a brief address, prosecutor Peter Kelly said it was alleged that Fidler had been caring for the couple whose ages, the court heard, were believed to be 90-plus.

No pleas were entered during the short hearing by the defendant, who was represented by solicitor Mark Shepherd.

Due to the nature of the charges, district judge John Temperley sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court.

Fidler is due to appear in front of a judge on February 17 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

In the meantime she was granted bail on condition that she dies not have any contact with the couple at the centre of the case.
