
Workington Golf Club retained their top spot in L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One.
A 4-1 away victory against top tier rivals, Workington Veterans Club kept them in pole position.
A solid performance from the Golf Club A’s Bryan Walker ensured the first frame was taken care of but by equalling the division’s best break of 59 in frame two Vets captain Kevin Basnett pulled the match score back to 1-1.
In frame three Mark Brasted did a superb job of keeping himself in the frame, and in potting the last two balls he nicked a 2-1 Golf Club A lead.
Mark Cowen produced some fine match play to take frame four and as team mate Phil Sorfleet galvanised the match victory with a win in the last the Golf Club A side went home feeling happy with their evening’s work.
The Golf Club top Division One on 36 points with the Vets Club bottom of the table on 29 points.
Workington’s Station Road Club took advantage of Division Two league leaders Flimby Social’s week off with a 4-1 away win against Maryport Social to close the gap at the top to just three points.
Tom Thompson put Station A 1-0 up which was quickly turned into 2-0 as super sub Andrew Henderson won the second for the Division Two outfit. Gary Miller delivered a measured performance to pull Maryport back into the match at 2-1 but with Mike Walker winning frame four with ease an unassailable 3-1 lead was obtained.
The last frame proved to be another one-sided affair as Darren Lawson inflicted more pain on the Social side to close out the match at 4-1.
Station A are second in Division Two on 24 points with Maryport fourth in the table on 16 points.
Division One’s United Club swept aside fellow townies Workington Golf Club B with a 5-0 whitewash to record their eighth win in ten matches.
Dave Chapman opened-up the match with a win in the first and with a victory from fellow United Club player, Clive Lister in the next a 2-0 lead was established.
Peter O’Hagan won a close third for 3-0 and as he watched on Mark Suitor made it 4-0 thanks to some fine tactical play. In the last United Club captain Andrew Mitchelhill was in no mood for mercy as a commanding performance ensured maximum points were obtained for the hard working Division One side.
The United Club stay third in Division One on 31 points with the Golf Club B still propping up Division Two on 8 points.
Finally, Workington Conservative Club put last week’s disappointment to one side as they defeated Whitehaven’s Rack Shack 4-1 at home.
A contribution of 39 was enough for Richard McCarthy to put Cons 1-0 up but it was Andy Moore who gave their higher divisional opponents something to think about with a brilliant win in frame 2.
A thumping victory for Alan Moore put Cons 2-1 up and as Ryan Barker proved victorious in frame 4 a 3-1 lead guaranteed the match win.
In the final frame the Rack Shack looked like pulling a point back however with a black ball win it was Dave Holland who put a smile on his team-mates faces to end the match in dramatic fashion.
Cons are second in Division One on 32 points with The Rack Shack third in Division Two on 17 points.
