Plans for a new pub and restaurant in Workington have been kicked into touch after the land has been bought by a new developer.
The 1.6 acre site, next to the town’s Travelodge and opposite Tesco, was earmarked for a pub and restaurant – but the original developer withdrew its offer and mystery surrounded its future for the last three years.
This week, a new company has said it has exchanged contracts on the land and wants to build 37 retirement homes. It has yet to apply for permission from Allerdale council for the scheme.
BuildFifty5 Living is a project management and construction development company from Shropshire.
Kieran Danby, director of BuildFifty5 Living, said: “Workington presents several challenges as it is part of a flood zone, a nesting ground for sea birds, is constrained by wayleaves and is remediated land.
“By combining our expertise and by using the knowledge of our professional team we have have designed the scheme to overcome these challenges and intend to commence the scheme in 2023.”
