Four Cumbrian venues have been named among the top 50 gastropubs in the UK.

The prestigious Estrella Damm Top 50 UK Gastropubs list, now in its 16th year, is created by collecting votes from more than 100 industry professionals.

The Black Swan at Ravenstonedale came in at number 20. Owned and run by Louise Dinnes, the Dinnes family and their team for the past 16 years, the Black Swan was given the accolade because of the food created by had chef Scott Fairweather.

Estrella Damm said: “Their enviable food offer, which under chef Scott Fairweather, revolves around locally sourced, seasonal Cumbrian dishes and hinges on strong relationships with local producers.”

The Black Bull in Sedbergh is listed at number 35. Co-owner James Ratcliffe said: “We’re aim to offer our guests the whole package – great food, a beautiful setting, warm service and genuine Dales hospitality and awards like this voted for by our peers up and down the country show that we are heading in the right direction.”

At 39 is the Dog and Gun in Skelton and Heft, in High Newton is at 43.

Heft’s chef patron Kevin Tickle said: “Being in the top 50 is a fantastic achievement for any pub and it really encourages you to keep pushing yourself.

“We’ve tried to ensure that we get things right by creating a village pub with a really relaxed vibe, serving good beer and wine alongside an ever changing locally sourced seasonal menu in the restaurant.

“There’s no doubt that we are heading in the right direction, and we’ll keep pushing ahead with what we want to achieve for the pub, and this recognises where we want to be.”
