Workington’s Carnegie Theatre has announced a 2023 season packed with live cinema screenings from around the world.

Starting with the National Theatre’s production of The Crucible on February 3, the venue’s cinema screenings include drama, ballet, opera and musical theatre.

All filmed in front of a live audience, visitors can expect to be transported to locations as far apart as Sydney Harbour in Australia and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.

Shows from the popular National Theatre Live programme play a big part in the cinema schedule, with critically acclaimed performances including Life of Pi and Shakespeare’s Othello making appearances.

General manager Cheryl Hewetson said: “Although the Carnegie has done a couple of popular cinema screenings in the past, we’ve never had such an extensive programme to suit such a range of tastes. The new selection will complement our usual vibrant range of live music, comedy and musical theatre.”

The current 2023 cinema programme includes huge names such as Cliff Richard, Alfie Boe, Michael Ball and The Three Tenors.

Cheryl added: “The Carnegie is for all of West Cumbria and our expanding range of programming aims to provide something for everyone.”
