Wath Brow Hornets Under-14s have progressed to the second round of the BARLA national cup.

They entertained a very good Oldham St Anne’s team and had to work hard for an 18-12 victory.

The first half was nip and tuck with the Brow going in with a narrow 10-6 lead.

There were tries from Daniel Riley and Tom Banner, with a conversion from Billy Joe Towers.

The second half was a tough affair with both teams competing well, but it was the young Hornets who killed of the game with two more tries by Evan Sherwen and a second from Banner.

St Anne’s did have the final say of the game as they went over the white wash and converted in the final seconds to pull it back to 18-12.

In the second round Wath Brow face a big west Cumbrian derby at home to neighbours Kells in a fortnight’s time.

On the same day the Hornets Under-16s will play host to Myton Warriors from Humberside in the National Cup.

The Brow team was: Henley Davidson, Jack Baker, Tom Banner, Evan Sherwen, Aston Walker, Billy Joe Towers,, Brady Todd, Casson Chadwick, Olsen Sharp, James Stamper, Dean Pattinson, Daniel Riley, Conrad Dockwray, Joseph Pringle, Mally Clarke, Keaton Lee, Alex Powe.
