Maryport continued their build-up to the new season with a 38-12 victory over visitors Roose Pioneers from the south of the county.
It followed an opening warm-up game with Seaton and is ahead of Wednesday’s third test at Egremont A.
Simon Pattinson, one of the three lead coaches at Maryport said: “It was a fantastic day at the club all round because there was a big crowd to watch the game and the clubhouse was packed afterwards when we had entertainment on.
“Roose are a strong outfit and it was a big test for us, especially in the forwards. They had an outstanding prop who is 40-years-old but was still a handful and an inspiration to the younger lads around him.
“We are getting real competition for places and some of our Under-16s from last season got a chance to show their potential.
“The Galloping Horse have sponsored our kit this season and they chose Josh Patterson as the man of the match.
“He was outstanding, scoring four tries from full-back and there was a buzz in the crowd every time he had the ball. He has come back after a spell out of the game and his attitude has been terrific at training in the build-up to our pre-season games.”
Patterson was joined on the scoresheet by Craig Foster, Chris Ivison, Ellis Nixon and Ethan Williams. Patterson, Foster and Gary Taylor each kicked a goal.
