
A man from Kirkby-in-Furness has been jailed for for multiple child sex offences.
Mark Werner, 44, was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison at Preston Crown Court after pleaded guilty to five charges relating to sexual assault on a girl.
The offences occurred over four years.
Detective Sergeant Stewart Glendinning, of Cumbria police, said: “Werner exploited his victim and took advantage of her vulnerability for a number of years.
“I would like to commend the victim in this case for the bravery they have shown in reporting what had happened and supporting our investigation.
“Cumbria Constabulary is committed to thoroughly and compassionately investigating all reports of rape and serious sexual offences, no matter how much time has passed.
“Support is available in Cumbria for victims of sexual offences. The Constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances.
“I would encourage anyone who has been victim to a sexual offence to contact police so that our officers can investigate. You will be supported throughout our investigation.”
