An application seeking permission to change the use of a guesthouse in a Lake District town has been submitted to the national park authority.
The plan would see Thorneyfield Guest House in Compston Road, Ambleside, turned into three self-catered units to ‘meet market demand’, according to a submitted design, access and heritage statement.
The statement says permission is also being sought, as part of the application, to ‘improve the owner’s living accommodation’ and for various alterations at the property.
These alterations would include new windows and doors and a new garden wall to allow for handrails and wider steps to be introduced at the front of the building.
“The proposal will update the existing building in a sympathetic manner and have a positive effect on the existing business,” says the design, access and heritage statement.
The application has been submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority by Mr and Mrs Drummond Smith.
