Work created by young Cumbrian artists has gone on display at an annual exhibition.
The Exhibition of Young Artists, organised by The Arts Society Cumbria, has opened at Rheged, near Penrith.
Pupils from schools including Appleby Grammar School, Keswick School, the Nelson Thomlinson School, in Wigton, and the Windermere School, Austin Friars Independent School, James Rennie School, in Carlisle, and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and Ullswater Community College, in Penrith, have their work displayed.
The exhibition features work by A-level students, with some themes designated by the exam board and others inspired by their own ideas.
At the opening of the exhibition, Sarah Dunning OBE, of Westmorland Family Business, selected three prize-winning artworks.
The winners were Abstract Memory by Laura Per, How Long Is It Going To Take? by Cecily Shaw and Silence by Aarupi Javeria.
A special prize was awarded to a collaborative work by pupils from James Rennie School, who created Otter, a collage made from recycled materials.
The project explored how recycling could help to protect the natural world and the otters that depend on it.
The exhibition was organised by Fiona Campbell and Stuart McElhinney of The Arts Society Cumbria.
Stuart said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to promote the teaching of art in our schools.”
Fiona added: “We are grateful to Rheged for offering us a venue for the exhibition and for funding one of the prizes, a voucher that will enable a young artist to attend a creative class of their choice.”
The Arts Society Cumbria is affiliated to The Arts Society, an arts education charity with a global network of 375 local societies.
The society organises lectures, visits and short breaks as well as arts volunteering, with members from all over north Cumbria.
The exhibition is displayed on Retail Street at the Rheged Centre and runs until September 6. Entry is free.
