Flimby Social players who clinched the Division Two title.

Flimby Social secured the L & L Property Contractors Snooker League Division Two title with two weeks to go on the back of a 3-2 win at Division One’s Workington Veterans Club.

An excellent win started with Kevin Kirkham missing very little in the first to put Flimby 1-0 in the lead.

Frame two proved to be a more tactical affair with Mark Tatton pulling the Vets back into the match at 1-1 before Michael ‘Sid’ Walker delivered a simply magnificent performance in frame three to regain the lead for Flimby.

With the Vets side winning the next on the black a decider awaited in which they controlled the final frame right up to the last few colours. But with some fine potting, culminating in a superb pot on the last ball, Sal Cakmak claimed the match victory and the Division Two title for the dominant Flimby side.

Flimby top Division Two on 42 points, ten points ahead of their nearest rivals. The Vets Club stay fourth in Division One on 40 points with the threat of relegation a real possibility.

Division One leaders Workington Golf Club A made a huge stride towards sealing the top tier title with a 5-0 win over club mates Workington Golf Club B.

A fairly convincing Ryan Ismay win put the A team 1-0 up, however, even though the second frame was a lot closer the A side still managed to prevail as Brian Walker made it 2-0.

The third frame was in the balance but again it was the Division One outfit who managed to pinch it as Phil Sorfleet made it 3-0.

As the fourth frame progressed a familiar pattern started to develop and with Mark Brasted nicking it again it put the A side 4-0 in front. With a whitewash on the cards the Division Two team put up a real fight in the last but with an air of inevitability circulating it was Lewis Tilley who completed the drubbing to put his team within touching distance of a first league Division One title.

Golf Club A are on a Division One total of 54 points and Golf Club B remain in the wooden spoon position in Division Two on 13 points.

Workington’s United Club continued to impress in the league as they turned over current Division One champions, Workington Conservative Club 3-2 at home.

A victory for Julian Plaza had given the Cons the early lead but back came the United Club with an impressive Clive Lister win in the next.

At 1-1 Peter O’Hagan played some solid snooker to make it 2-1 to the United Club, however Ryan Barker quickly returned the complement with a victory in frame four to take it to a decider.

As the Cons side failed to field a player in the last it was Andrew Mitchelhill who took the point to record yet another United Club match victory.

It means the United Club sit third in Division One on 45 points with Cons a place higher in second on 47 points having played a game more.

Finally, Maryport Social came out 3-2 away winners in their Division Two fixture against Whitehaven’s Rack Shack.

Stephen Harrison opened up with a win for the Rack Shack but the scores were level after frame two as Ben Scott won with ease.

The third frame saw Gary Miller put Maryport in front for the first time at 2-1 but with Adam Morilla winning on the black the match went to a decider.

In the final frame another close game ensued, but it was Maryport’s Andrew Scott who delivered the decisive blow to carry his team to victory.

Maryport Social are fourth in Division 2 on 22 points and the Rack Shack are third, also in Division Two, on 25 points.
