A fundraiser set up in memory of Cumbrian photographer Jordan Mossom has raised over £8000.
Jordan, who was from Maryport, passed away last year on April 2 and was a well-known photographer and railway enthusiast. Throughout his life, he worked extremely hard to raise awareness of his condition, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
He attended Jigsaw, which is based in Durdar Road, Carlisle, for many years and the charity also offered to support to his wider family, including mum Clare O’Brien, sisters Olivia and Hannah and brother Kieran.
An online fundraiser for Jigsaw – the only children’s hospice in the county – was set up by Jordan’s sister Hannah as a way of giving back to the charity which supported them for more than 12 years.
Now, almost a year on from Jordan’s passing, the family are closing the GoFundMe.
Hannah said: “When Jordan passed it was truly heart-breaking and still is, but we as a family wanted to do something to keep his life and legacy alive.
“In his memory, I created a GoFundMe, where myself, family and friends shared it all over social media. In just two weeks we had raised over £4000 which was unbelievable. Our goal was only £1000.
“To raise this money meant the world, I felt like it was something I needed to do. The Jigsaw Children’s Hospice has always been a happy place for my family and I, the staff are so amazing, always been a shoulder to cry on when we needed.
“Words can’t describe how grateful I am for all the support they’ve given us as a family and most importantly Jordan. Jigsaw brought out of a beautiful, funny and mischievous side in Jordan.”
Alongside the £8022.25 the family raised for the charity – they also donated 52 Easter eggs to Jigsaw for staff, children and their families.
Hannah added: “I hope that wherever Jordan is he is proud of the memory we have created for him. Whilst donating the money, we wanted to give the children, staff and families something to put a little smile on their faces.
“It’s nice to know that a child/young adult and their family now receive the same amazing care and support that we did. Jigsaw will always have a special place in my heart, I will never stop sharing or talking about the truly brilliant place.
“But not everyone knows about it so we want to help make more people aware of it and how important it is to have a facility like this in Cumbria.
“One last thing I’d like to say is how missed Jordan is, our lives aren’t the same. There is a big hole in each and every one of our hearts, the world is a much darker place without your beautiful face and your humour, until we meet again one day. You are loved dearly Jordan.”
Hannah said herself and the rest of Jordan’s family would like to personally thank everyone who donated to the fundraiser.
A Jigsaw spokesperson said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Jordan’s family and friends for their generosity and support of Jigsaw, the only children’s hospice in Cumbria. Jordan is remembered fondly here at the hospice and it’s wonderful to see how much money has been raised in his memory.
“The funds will help us continue to provide care to children and young people with life limiting illnesses from across Cumbria and extend that support to their families.”
