Workington Town coach Anthony Murray felt Dewsbury’s experience tipped the scales in Sunday’s clash at Derwent Park.
The Rams stayed top of League Two with their 25-6 win which was the first defeat for the Cumbrians in the competition.
“Dewsbury have some experienced players and they retained most of last season’s Championship squad.
“I think it was that which gave them the edge but I certainly couldn’t fault the commitment and effort I got from the team.
“We have played potentially the two top teams in the League and given them both a game. We could have beaten Doncaster and competed well against the leaders Dewsbury.
“I think there were times we didn’t get the rub of the green but I don’t dwell too much on that. For me it’s players who make mistakes, not referees.”
Murray will be assessing his squad at tonight’s training debrief but doesn’t believe there are any further serious concerns.
Tom Curwen will be out for six to eight weeks with a broken ankle while Malik Steele can be expect to be out of contention for four to six weeks with a quod injury. Blain Marwood should be available for Sunday’s trip to Birmingham to take on Midlands Hurricanes.
“I’m expecting a tough game having seen them in the Challenge Cup a fortnight ago. They also ran Rochdale fairly close and having paired with Castleford for dual registration could be strengthened if the Tigers don’t have a reserve game this weekend.
“It’s going to be new for all of us because they play on a ground in Birmingham which I believe is an athletics stadium and none of us have seen,” said Murray.
