This time next week, the people of Workington will be gearing up for the annual Uppies and Downies matches.
Last year saw the Downies claim the series victory so Uppies will be desperate to regain bragging rights.
Uppies and Downies has been played in the town for hundreds of years, has no rules and no organising committee.
The ball is thrown off at the Cloffocks at 6.30pm at each of the three games over Easter – Good Friday, Easter Tuesday and the following Saturday.
Uppies have to get the specially made ball to Workington Hall, while the Downies have to get to Workington harbour. The ball has to be thrown up in the air three times for it to be officially hailed.
Cumbria Crack will be there again in 2023 – bringing you live commentary from all three games, plus photos and videos. We can’t wait!
Here are some photos from last year’s games to whet your appetite.
Downie Dan Fryer clinched the series in the last match of 2022. was victorious. Aaron Lancaster took Good Friday for the Downies and Jamie Friel regained Uppie pride on Easter Tuesday.
