
Whitehaven extended their unbeaten run in the West Lancashire League with a 2-2 draw at a resilient Hurst Green.
Kian Goulding opened the scoring with his second penalty in his last two games.
Hurst Green’s equaliser also came from the penalty spot when Aidan Smith was adjudged to have handled inside the box.
Whitehaven lost their goalkeeper Tom Fowler to a dislocated finger and Aaron Carter who came on as a replacement went on to have a fantastic game.
Whitehaven had a few chances to regain the lead but were unable to take them and the first-half ended all square at 1-1.
The west Cumbrians began the second half the better of the two sides and piled on the pressure.
They got their reward on the hour from Goulding’s perfectly placed free kick which found captain Brad Harrison at the far post to supply the finish.
Hurst Green rallied, changed shape and began to cause Whitehaven a few problems before scoring their equaliser late on.
Both sides had chances to win it before the end but had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Whitehaven are away again on Saturday hoping to continue their unbeaten run at bottom of the table Milnthorpe Corinthians.
But their hosts, only promoted last year, have matches in hand of other teams near the bottom and are fighting to stay in the Premier Division.
