Three games scheduled for the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL on Friday have been brought forward to tonight.
Seaton Rangers A had to cry off their opening game last week at Glasson Rangers through a lack of numbers.
But that shouldn’t be a problem this time when they face a stiff test at home to the reigning League champions Distington.
On Saturday Distington opened their campaign with a convincing win over Maryport and their second-half performance in that game suggested they are going to be hard to stop.
Seaton don’t have a first team game this week in the National Conference so will be able to use players to augment the second team.
That’s fine with Distington coach Aiden Worthington who says he would do the same and fully expects the opposition to beef up the A team.
“I wouldn’t mind if they played their first team because it would test us. I have Gavin Martin (hamstring) and Nick Cook (away) missing from last week’s line-up but have brought in two experienced lads as well as Callum Swindale from Whitehaven rugby union club,” said Worthington.
Wath Brow A are likely to be the side who test Distington the most, having already beaten them in the EB Lamb Amateur Cup.
The Hornets are at home tonight against Hensingham A, who were well beaten by Lowca in their opening game. But again the same applies as with Seaton. With no National Conference game this week-end extra assistance will be on hand.
On paper probably the tightest game looks to be the one at Kells where the host club’s A team take on the second string from Egremont.
Kells A lost at Wath Brow A 31-8 in their opening game while Egremont A were just pipped 20-18 at Ellenborough A.
That leaves two very interesting games to be played on Saturday in which Lowca look to follow-up their opening day win with a second victory as they entertain Cockermouth Titans and a town derby should set the pulses racing – Maryport v Glasson Rangers.
The Titans are playing their first game of the season and are intent on making an impression after having to end last season early.
It’s also Glasson’s first game following last week’s walk-over against Seaton A against a Maryport side who played well for 50 minutes against Distington before being swept aside.
