The M6 is closed southbound between junctions 41 and 42 after a collision.
Emergency services are at the scene, between Catterlen, near Penrith and Carlisle.
The collision involved a van and a motorbike.
Cumbria police said the road may be closed for sometime while they deal with the incident.
Drivers are urged to find alternative routes.
