In a bid to boost finances Whitehaven RL club have introduced a new initiative for local businesses.

The Championship club have revealed the launch of a Business Reward Scheme.

This initiative offers local businesses the opportunity to buy tickets at a reduced price, that they can reward loyal and local employees or even donate them within the community.

A club spokesman said: “We are hoping with the backing of our local businesses we can get a 2,000 crowd for the Keighley game on May 7.

Businesses buying 10 to 50 tickets will get them at £17 each and those buying between 50 and 100 tickets can buy at £15.

For any buying 100-plus the discounts will be discussed.

The spokesman added: “All supporting businesses will have a social media release and photo opportunities with the squad. Your support will help the club survive, grow and thrive in the challenging Rugby League Championship for this season and many more to come.”

Whitehaven’s financial situation has been of concern for some time now and was even put forward as the reason why the club did not attend the recent members meeting to vote on the IMG grading proposal.

It is hoped that this new venture – with similar ones introduced by several football clubs over the last 12 months – will help improve those finances.

The club has said that it needs 1,200 fans through the gates for every home game to be able to compete at Championship level.
