Action returns to West Woodburn for HTA

Nicola McMaster with Rodney raider winner of the Open Pups at West Woodburn

Action returned to West Woodburn last night, a new HTA venue which is along the Military Road, so a fair few miles for some of the members to travel.

The number of runners was down compared to the first meeting they had there on Tuesday so perhaps the distance had put some people off travelling again. However the trailing was good.

Winterfell set off joint favourite, after his win on Tuesday night, along with Huntsman’s Quantum.

However Barry Laidler’s and Caroline Clough’s Winterfell seems to back on song and managed to repeat his success from the previous meeting winning nicely from Willie and Daphne Mark’s Summer Spirit who finished second again.

Huntsman’s Quantum made some slight progress on Tuesday night’s performance and finished in fourth place for Denise and Jenny Bland and Alan Little.

This win takes Winterfell second in the Senior Championship level on wins but trailing behind Silver Streak who has acquired more second tickets. Huntsman’s Quantum, who also has three wins, is down to third place in the table.

The puppy race saw Rodney Raider finish well to take the honours for Nicola McMaster and David Todhunter.

Ashley Horn and Sarah White’s Flightline finished second with Willie and Daphne Mark’s other hound Sportsman finishing in third place.

This win moves Rodney Raider above kennel and litter mate Silver Dream and gives him third position in the puppy championship.

Following the transfer of the majority of the Border hounds they have had lean pickings at the usual HTA venues but last night’s Open Restricted trail saw a number of ex-Border hounds among the tickets.

Mr Finnigan, owned by Sandra Mordue and co, won nicely for them with Sarah Harper’s Delta Spiral finishing in second place.
