Police have carried out an operation targeting anti-social behaviour and drugs in West Cumbria.
Workington officers were in Northside on Thursday and carried out 14 stop and searches.
Police said there were four positives searches for drugs. They have now been reported for possession. A vape was also seized from a young person following a search.
A young person was also stopped while riding an e-scooter, which was seized because a privately owned e-scooter cannot be used on a road or in public place and requires a driving licence and insurance.
Officers also saw two young people kicking a home’s door and running away. Officers caught up to them and were searched and a vape seized from one of them. Both were returned home and an It’s Your Choice form submitted.
It’s Your Choice is an intervention scheme which aims to educate young people on the consequences of their anti-social behaviour and the wider impact this has on other people. The submission of these forms result in a letter being sent to parents and are subject of increasing scrutiny should a young person reoffend.
Young people have also been reportedly damaging an abandoned building. Cumbria police said CCTV footage had been recovered and enquires are ongoing.
Officers in Workington conducted an operation in Northside yesterday (April 27) targeting anti-social behaviour, drugs and other issues reported in the area.
Officers from the neighbourhood police team were supported during the operation by the force’s intelligence department.
Sergeant Leesa Edwards said “This operation was an opportunity to disrupt anti-social behaviour, criminal behaviour and gather intelligence in the area.
“We had officers in uniform and plain clothes as part of the operation. Intelligence was gathered and will help support our work in the area moving forward.
“This was just a small part of the ongoing work we are doing with partner agencies in the area.”
In the lead-up to the operation detectives from the intelligence department conducted a warrant at an address on Far Moss, Northside on April 17.
A substantial amount of cocaine was seized along with cannabis and a large quantity of cash.
Two people were arrested in connection, a 42-year-old man and 30-year-old woman and released on police bail.
