Drivers are being warned to plan ahead as the Fred Whitton Challenge takes to Cumbria’s roads.
Our colleagues at Cumbria Road Watch have published a list of roads that will be used today during the race which takes the very top riders six to over 11 hours to complete.
The route consists of a 112 mile sportive around the Lake District starting at Grasmere and taking in climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose and Blea Tarn passes.
It is considered one of the toughest rides in the UK and roads are set to be subject to large amounts of competitors all day.
These roads are likely to be slow moving whilst the event is ongoing and drivers are urged to plan extra time for their journeys today in light of this.
The following roads being used are:
- A591
- A592
- A66
- B5292
- A5086
- B5289 via Borrowdale
- A595
- Hardknott Pass
- Wrynose Pass
- B5343
- A593
