A woman had to be airlifted to hospital after she fell 262ft while out on a Lake District walk.
The walker was with friends when she fell while on Striding Edge.
She landed near Red Tarn. The accident was seen by passers-by, who quickly responded and provided immediate first aid. After an initial assessment they called Cumbria police, who alerted Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team.
The team, due to location and nature of injuries, requested immediate assistance from the Coastguard helicopter and with the air ambulance.
Eighteen members of the team were deployed to assist with the rescue.
The woman was assessed by medical teams from all agencies before being transferred by aircraft to hospital for further treatment.
A spokesman for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Our thanks go to members of the public who responded quickly to the incident along with our partner agencies for their prompt response.”
The rescue lasted four hours.
