Get ready for Workington’s Cans Film Festival – and help local foodbanks

Workington’s Parkway Cinema will host its first Cans Film Festival – giving customers the chance to see a movie for the price of two cans of food.

The initiative at the Dunmail Park venue takes place on Saturday, May 20 and is a playful homage to the famous French Cannes Film Festival, say organisers.

People who bring two tins of food will get a free ticket to see either Disney’s Encanto or Puss in Boots: The Last Wish at at 10am for free.

The tins will be donated to foodbanks in the region.

Daniel Moxon, general manager, said: “We’ve been thinking of unique ways to help local causes and hope film lovers will come together to donate.

“With food bank usage at a record high, it’s now more important than ever that we all show our support.”

Tickets can only be collected in the cinema during box office hours while handing in a donation. One ticket will be issued per person for every two cans donated.
