Copeland Memory Matters and Later Life Group (NHS) decided, along with Age UK, to have another pigeon race to support Dementia Action Week.
This race was the sixth the group have held in the last seven years and there was a good turnout of service users, carers, staff and social workers for the occasion.
They gathered at Whitehaven Harbour for a lunchtime liberation of the pigeons which had been provided by Blacklock and sons of Workington.
The were liberated by Les Blacklock, assisted by Dave who is a service user and current pigeon fancier.
The RPRA and the Cumbria Region, along with private donors, sponsored the prizes.
Thanks were expressed to Sheena (NHS) and R & R Day Centre (based at Kells) for organising and supporting the event.
First and second in the race were Henry and Betty, while Sheila won the RPRA Cap and a good afternoon was had by all.
