
There’s a major rugby union festival taking place at Wigton on Sunday as part of the Newcastle Falcons Development Player Pathway.
It’s the culmination of a three-week programme with the previous festivals being staged at West Hartlepool and at the Falcons’ home, Kingston Park, Newcastle.
The games over this period have given playing opportunities for over 150 players from Cumbria, Northumberland and Durham.
Eight regional teams play three fixtures each across two pitches and lots of running rugby is the norm as the youngsters are keen to showcase their talents.
There will be a West Cumbria side, involving players from Wigton, Keswick, Cockermouth and Workington and a Cumbria south side which will incorporate players from Carlisle, Penrith, Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale.
Teams from North Northumberland, Tyne and Coast, North Durham, Mid Durham and South Durham will also be involved.
All the game have been of a high standard and really competitive throughout the previous two weeks and Sunday’s action gets underway at 1.30pm.
*Meanwhile the Wigton RU club has announced the launch of the Lowmoor Road Lottery in partnership with Play Fund Win at £5 a ticket. The first draw being set for June 15th.
