Velo Club Cumbria’s series of evening time trials continued with 2022 club champion Luke Johnston claiming his first victory of the season by winning the Keswick 10-mile time trial.
Workington-based Johnston beat a good field of local riders by completing the course, which runs from Beck Wythop to Keswick and back on the A66 alongside Bassenthwaite Lake, in a fast time of 20 minutes and 40 seconds despite windy conditions.
Johnston narrowly beat the dominant rider of the year so far Alistair Robinson by eight seconds, who himself was narrowly ahead of Cockermouth-based veteran Allistair Moffatt on 21.08.

Winning road bike rider was Dean Newton in an impressive time of 22.44 while the first female was Rachel Jeff in 25.28, ahead of Rachael Maxwell on 25.57.
