Cumbria earned a thrilling last-ball win in their opening NCCA Trophy game against Herefordshire.
With the last pair at the wicket, and seven needed off the final over, spinners Nico Watt and Matthew Siddall nudged and scampered their way to victory.
Five singles and a two were enough to see them home with Watt scoring the winning run off the last delivery.
Skipper Michael Slack had perished for 65 on the final ball of the penultimate over in which Sam Sharp had earlier been run out for five.
Cumbria had only scored two runs off that 49th over, losing those two wickets, to leave the game on a knife edge going into the last over.
Herefordshire had opted to take first use of the wicket and Cumbria were encouraged by early successes to reduce their hosts to 36-3.
Sam Sharp removed both openers and Ben Walkden had Nicholas Hammond caught behind by Finlay Richardson.
But the Herefordshire innings was revived by Oliver Rogoff (87) who found worthy support from Callum Bennett (27) and then Roshan Venkataraman (43no) so that they completed their 50 overs on 227-9.
Sharp was the most successful Cumbria bowler, finishing his ten overs with 5-52.
Opener Sam Dutton started strongly but when he was out for 41 Cumbria were 60-4 in the 16th over.
By the 43rd over Cumbria had moved to 184 but with the stand worth 124, Matthew Sempill was dismissed for 69.
Slack kept going, and despite losing three partners, had put his side within sight of victory when he was out.
Watt and Siddall did him proud in a tense final over which ended with Cumbria opening their 50-over campaign in winning fashion.
